On February 28th, 2021, 47 Hong Kong democrats and activists were charged with conspiracy to commit subversion under the National Security Law (NSL). All 47 detainees are pro-democracy legislators and activists involved in the unofficial primaries prior to last year’s legislative council election. They include the organizers of the primaries and candidates on the ballots, among them Joshua Wong (黃之鋒) is already serving a sentence in prison, Ted Hui (許智峯) and Sunny Cheung (張崑陽) have been forced into exile. The primaries which aimed to coordinate candidacies between electoral districts is a legal and common practice in most countries, it was however deemed by the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) as an act of subversion and used as a pretext to mass arrest and detention of Hong Kong democrats. It is yet another brutal assault on human rights, freedom and democracy of Hong Kong in flagrant violation of the Sino-British Joint Declaration.
VSSDM unequivocally condemn the suppression and persecution of Hongkongers by the CCP. We call upon the Canadian government to stand with Hong Kong and take concrete actions, such as urging the International Olympic Committee to move the 2022 Winter Olympics from Beijing, or boycotting the Games to deny the dictatorial regime of the CCP an international platform it desperately seeks.
2月28日，中國共產黨/香港政府逮捕並控訴47名曾參與去年泛民立法會初選的人士。罪名是在北京通過強加香港的國安法中的顛覆政權罪。被告人士中有已在獄中的黃之鋒，有正在流亡的許智峯，張崑陽。
在同理念的人中透過初選推舉在一個選區或組別的共同候選人，在全世界很多國家都是正常合法的事。是民主過程必需的步驟。但中共卻認為是破壞其一黨專政的行動。野蠻地用國安法做武器對該47名人進行逮捕，檢訴和不准保釋。這大規模逮捕檢控是違反人權，自由，民主和中英聯合聲明的。溫哥華支聯會強烈譴責中國共產黨在香港實行的政治逼害。
香港人在水深火熱中，加拿大有30萬公民在香港，境內也有眾多來自香港的入籍公民和投票者，我們還有兩個Michael被關押,我們要求加拿大政府採取強硬立場和有力措施，包括要求國際奧委會收回北京主辦冬季奧運權，並抵制北京冬奧，以保護境內外加拿大國民和營救兩個Michael。
